Matrix: A rectangular arrangement of mn elements in the form of an ordered set of m rows and n columns is called an m × n matrix. (m × n is read as m by n).
Such an arrangement is enclosed in the bracket [ ] or parenthesis ( ). Each of the mn elements constituting the matrix is called an element or entry of the matrix.
An element appearing in the ith row and the jth column is referred as (i, j)th element or the (i, j)th entry. Usually, a matrix is denoted by a capital letter and an element of a matrix by a small letter of the alphabet along with two suffixes. The first one indicates the number of row and the latter one indicates the number of column in which the element appears.
